Mission

Our mission is to create a shared identity and "recognized brand" for the residents, businesses, schools and churches in an area bounded on the south by 610, on the west by White Oak Bayou, on the north by Victory and on the east by 1-45.

We have chosen to name ourselves the

NORTH SHEPHERD DISTRICT.

We are a diverse, vibrant community which aspires to speak as one voice to address shared issues, needs, opportunities and potential challenges to our quality of life. In pursuing this effort we hope to move ourselves from proximity to community.

To Promote and Protect with a United Effort and Voice

WHY:

    • To educate anyone who is interested in knowing more about what is going on in our community on
      topics such as

        • The plans that developers have for our area.

        • What the picture on crime and homelessness in our area looks like currently.

        • Infrastructure, including open ditches, flooding, and the impact of the rebuild of I-45.

        • Other topics that will affect our area both good and bad.

    • To create a "brand" for our community that will help us build a sense of unity and community pride...in short we want to give ourselves a NAME that is recognized across the city. We will build a geographic sense of identity that puts us on the map just like Mid-town, Ea-Do, and the Heights.

    • To serve as a conduit for information to and from the neighborhoods that make up our District to city, county and state governments.

    • To provide our members with the ability to speak as one voice on matters that are important to us. There is true power in numbers.

WHO:

We are people who live and/or work within our district's boundaries. We include churches, schools, businesses and organizations (such as civic associations and non-profits). The NSD is located in a wonderful part of our city. Our district is in the development stage.

WHERE:

Currently we consider our boundaries to be Victory on the north, 1-45 on the east, N 610 Loop on the south and White Oak Bayou on the west.

WHEN:

We meet the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm at Wabash Feed and Garden. Meetings end promptly by 8:00 pm. We provide the elements of a light meal and some refreshment since many of us come directly from work.

There is much work ahead of us to attain the city-wide recognition we seek and to establish our "brand". We would welcome your help and participation.

You are already one of us!
